STEP 1. Make sure the sonar emits WiFi hotspot and your phone is connected to it.
If you are unable to connect your Deeper device to your phone or tablet, please try the troubleshooting steps below:
a) Firstly, test if the Deeper emits a WiFi signal while charging:
1. Place the Deeper on charge. If no LED light starts flashing, read this
2. Open the WiFi connections/networks on your phone
3. Locate the WiFi network of the Deeper and connect to it. If no WiFi hotspot is visible, please contact Deeper support.
Note: If you are connected and it says "no internet connection" - ignore this message, it is normal. Deeper does not provide an internet connection, it simply uses WiFi as a communication channel. If it asks for a password, it is 12345678
b) Test if the Deeper emits a WiFi signal when activated in water:
1. Put your Deeper in a container of water (cup/bucket/sink)
2. Open the WiFi connections/networks on your phone
3. Locate the WiFi network of the Deeper and connect to it. If no WiFi hotspot is visible, please contact Deeper support.
Note: If the Deeper does not emit a WiFi signal when in contact with water, this may be due to the 2 metal pins (water contacts) being dirty/corroded. Clean them with a rough sponge and try again. You can also use alcohol or WD-40 to clean them.
STEP 2. Adjust phone settings and connect with the app.
If your Deeper emits a WiFi signal and you are able to connect to it via WiFi connections of your phone, disable your "Mobile/Cellular data" and open the Deeper application and it should connect to your sonar. If it asks for permission to see your location, make sure you allow it or it won't be able to connect. If you are able to see the battery level of your Deeper or messages like "Too deep/shallow", "Out of water", it means the connection is successful.
If the application tells you that "Deeper is disconnected", Re-install the application and restart your phone and then try to connect again. If it still fails, please try the following steps:
1. Disable "Smart network management" in your phone.
- Apple iOS - Disable "WiFi assist". To find "WiFi assist" go to "Settings" -> "Mobile/Cellular data" -> Scroll down to the very bottom
- Android - Search "WiFi settings" for one of these settings "Smart network switch" / "WiFi+" / "Auto network switch" / "Adaptive WiFi" and, if found, disable it.
2. If you have previously paired another phone/tablet with the Deeper, it might be stealing the WiFi network. Make sure you disable the WiFi of any devices in close proximity.
3. Make sure the Deeper application has permission to use "Mobile/Cellular" and "Location". To check this, go to your "Phone settings" -> "Application settings" and find "Fishdeeper".
4. If you're using a Virtual Private Network (VPN) on your phone, disable it. If you don't know what VPN is, you're probably not using one.
Once you've taken care of these 4 steps, try to connect to the sonar again. Make sure your phone or tablet is connected to the Deeper via the Wi-Fi prior to connecting with the app. Deeper sonar must be either connected to a charger or in the water.
Last of all, if you have another smartphone or tablet, try using it to connect to the sonar.
