This article explains how to remove weeds, fishing line, or other debris from the Deeper Quest propeller compartments and hopper release mechanisms.
Debris in Propeller Compartments
The Deeper Quest propellers are protected by weed guards designed to reduce the risk of vegetation or debris entering the propulsion system. However, in areas with heavy weeds, grass, or floating debris, some material may still become trapped inside the propeller compartments.
Common Symptoms
Reduced speed or power
Increased motor noise or vibration
Boat drifting or steering poorly
Autopilot performance becoming inaccurate
How to Remove Debris from the Propellers
Retrieve the Deeper Quest from the water and turn it off.
Disconnect the batteries before performing any maintenance.
Use the screwdrivers included in the maintenance/tool kit to remove the weed guards.
Carefully inspect the propeller compartments and remove:
Weeds
Grass
Fishing line
Other trapped debris
Slowly rotate the propellers by hand and ensure they move freely.
Reattach the weedguards securely before using the Quest again.
Hoppers Do Not Open
If the hoppers do not open after pressing the release buttons, the most common cause is dirt or debris stuck in the hopper release pins.
How to Clean Hopper Release Pins
Inspect the metal pins responsible for releasing the hoppers.
Check for:
Dirt
Sand
Dry bait residue
Vegetation or debris
Clean the pins carefully until they move freely.
If needed, use a soft cloth, cotton swab, or a small amount of alcohol or WD-40
Test the hopper release again after cleaning.
Prevention Tips
Avoid operating in dense vegetation whenever possible
Inspect propellers and hopper mechanisms after every trip
Clean the Quest regularly, especially after use in muddy or weedy environments
Regular maintenance helps ensure reliable propulsion and hopper operation.
